How many people are in the band? The Swords started out with eight members consisting of three women and five men. Amy and Sierra departed during the early days of the band, then Liza became the new violin player soon afterwards. Brooke left in the summer of 2002, making the current roster a total of six very talented musicians. What do they sound like? You will have to listen to their work and figure it out for yourself. The band's sound is definitely rooted in rock, but elements of jazz, classical, and electronic music can be heard in just about all of their recordings. Unlike most popular music, the vocals in their songs compliment the instrumental structures instead of dominating what is heard by the listener. Where are they from? All of the band lives and works in Portland, Oregon. Most of them are originally from the northern center of California, with the exception of Liza who is a native of northern Washington State and Evan who originates from the Oregon coast. What kind of press have they received? We have been fortunate enough to interview The Swords at least twice. There have only been a few short articles written about them in small or regional newspapers. Please check out the interviews page for more detailed information. What kind of equipment do they use? We have tried very hard to catalog most if not all of the gear that the band uses on stage. With the exception of Evan's electronic instruments, the majority of their arsenal is vintage. Please check out the equipment page for more detailed information.
